Renting a camper van to tour in the UK
Never done it before. But fancy giving it a try.

Any tips?

Any recommended rental companies?

Used to own/run company that did conversion and van rentals, only VWT5's. Ive owned various types of VW's since when our kids were little(now grown up)Although I love the VW's, ended up being bit of a faff putting bed out etc every night. They are great when weather is ok, as can sit outside etc.
Have also had several coachbuilt motorhomes, and now have a low profile fixed bed version, which is great. Arrive on site, and 5 mins later, all set up.
Think it depends how confident you are driving a bigger van, they arent difficult, just have to be bit more cautious.

First you will need to decide what you actually want - a van or a chassis cab conversion. Then what facilities you want in it and where you are taking it.

A van will get you where a larger job wont but will not have the facilities, so you will need a site with proper crappers and showers.

If I were you, I would take a van on a weekend jaunt and see how you get on, then plan from there.

These are belting tools, and will get you started, just make sure that you get insurance cover for the equipment too and understand the required cleanliness at return.

Give serious thought to what you need. Motorhomes come in 3 general classes. Class A built on a separate truck chassis, class B (van conversions/campervans), class C (van/truck platform with a box attached). Most motorhomes in UK are class C but that means bunk beds sitting above the cab. Class B have less room and normally pull-out/sofa beds. Modern class A are like coaches. Families don't really 'fit' in class B, couples tend to go for class B, the best all rounder is a small class A (ours is only 20ft), but they are not normally available to rent.

Place close to my work, called McRent in Waltham Abbey.
Often thought about it myself as I drive in for another day of boredom........ Dunno what they are like though.

Was watching the news and there was an old couple looked like they had retired to south of France and operated a fish and chip business from one, seemed to be doing a decent trade, although seasonal I would assume.
